Johan Nilsson

I am a condensed matter physicist. In my case this means that I investigate (using theoretical models) properties of materials that are relevant for life and technology on earth. I am currently working as an assistant professor at the Department of Physics at the University of Gothenburg.

I have previously worked on strongly correlated systems, for example with one-dimensional systems using the Bethe ansatz, and the breakdown of Fermi liquid theory by means of the “Pomeranchuk instability”.

The last couple of years my research has focused on various exciting and unconventional properties of graphene, and in particular the graphene bilayer on which I wrote my PhD thesis. Two other topics that I am currently pursuing involves topological insulators and Kondo systems.
